Well i think i may have this all right but would like to be very sure about it.

I ordered doxyvet liquid it is 50mg/ml in a 50ml bottle. also going by the req dose on ratguide of 2.5mg/lb

Ginger: 210g=
0.02ml meds

Girly:
weight 207g=
0.02ml meds

Mozart:520g=
0.06ml meds

Buck: 614g=
0.07ml meds

Also am i able to mix this with something like strawberry nesquik?

Going by the rat guide which suggests the lower dose of 2.5mg/kg or a high dose of 5mg/kg depending on the severity. If you are using the high dose which is equal to 2.5mg/lb then your doses are good for the high range although if the symptoms aren't that severe then you could lower the dose. I would suggest taking out 5ml of the doxy and mix it with 2.5ml nesquik and 2.5ml water (this is what has personally worked for me) then you have a concentration of 25mg/ml and then your doses would be doubled thus making it easier to administer mid range dosages.

oh nice ok so if i do the water and nesquik i put it at 25mg/ml with a dosage of 2.5g then right?

if that's right it would be

Girly 207g=
meds:0.05ml

Ginger:210g=
meds:0.05ml

Mozart:520g=
meds:0.11g

Buck:614g=
meds:0.14ml

Yup  but depending on how sick they are and if you are doing a baytril/doxy combo then you might want to lower it to somewhere in between 2.5 and 5 mg/kg (not 100% sure what that is in lbs).

2.5mg/kg is the lower one right? If so that sounds right. Yes they will be on a baytril/doxy combo they have been on baytril for about two weeks now as i had to wait for the doxy to get in. So id like to keep them on that combo for about two weeks. They have been having sniffles monkey noises for a bit is why and the vet did do check up is how i got the baytril :) but i did tell him that they will also be taking doxy(he has doxy but its already mixed and only lasts so long) where my doxy will now last longer as its not mixed yet :D

Thanks a bunch Smilez :hugs:

The dosing issues with liquid become apparent here. If it was a pill you were using it would be much easier to understand, but when you add liquid to liquid your mind insists you are diluting it, when you aren't.
Pretend that 1 ml of the 50 mg doxy liquid is one 50 mg pill. If you mixed it with 1 ml of solution (half and half nesquik and water), your ratio would be 1:1...or you would continue to have 50 mg/ml doxy. Same with 5 ml's of doxyvet, and 5 ml's of solution, still 50 mg/ml.

Now if you want 25 mg/ml doxy, you would mix 5 ml's of the doxyvet, and 10 ml's of the solution.

Btw it took me a LONG LONG time to sort this out in my head, had to have it beaten into my stubborn brain a lot. :laugh4:

I always use 5 mg/kg...the lower dose is very ineffective so what's the point?

Now back to the ratkids if you used the 25 mg/ml doxy.

Ginger: 210g=
0.04ml

Girly:
weight 207g=
0.04ml

Mozart:520g=
0.1ml

Buck: 614g=
1.12ml

??? I don't understand this. If you add 5 ml of liquid to another 5 ml of liquid, then the concentration of meds must surely be halved.

Yes I am still stuck on this as well....help me understand? :stickpoke:

I know this is a super super old thread I was digging up but I stumbled on this when looking for something else and thought I would comment.

V1 X C1 = V2 X C2 // Initial Volume X Initial Concentration = Final Volume X Final Concentration so:

1ml x 50mg = 2ml x (X)

1ml X 50mg / 2ml = 25mg

sounds like a good idea but does nesquick have calcium in it? if so calcium delays the absorbtion of doxy you can just give it straight also dont mix with pedialight it does the same thing i would just use sugar water
