Wondering who, if anybody, take their ratties in to the vet just for a general check up?

Jorats....when taking in rescues, do you take them into our vet just to check them out?

Just wondering if I should do this to avoid another week like this one. I don't have any concerns with the others right now but wonder if I should.

I only do this when I think it's necessary with some of the rescues.

When I first started out and I only had a few rats, I did bring them in every 6 months or so for a general check up but with 21 rats, I can't afford to do that. But once my numbers are back down, I'll be doing this again.

I didn't do that before, but then I found out that the vet could hear lung sounds in one of my girls who'd sounded OK to my unaided ear. So now I will take them in periodically to have their lungs listened to.

I am fostering a rescue litter, and I took them to the vet for a dose of Revolution just in case (one of my rats had had mites, so I decided to treat everybody). They all look and sound very healthy to me, but I felt better knowing that they'd been seen by a vet.

I took my boys in for a checkup when they were 6 months old and then it was only Chimo who got checked because he's the calmer one and I thought that if the vet found anything with Chimo then Coal would probably have the same issues  but less than a week later Chimo had to go back in because he had a abcess  I plan to take them back for another check up early next year when they are over a year old :D mostly for my peace of mind
