Female in heat

Okay so I have never had a female rat before ever she has an appointment for an exam with our vet on the 26 it's late because it wasn't an emergency and I'm okay with waiting for a more convenient time. But I'm not a complete idiot she is very obviously in heat and even tho my boys are in my bed room and she is in the room over it does not matter some how and some way they smell her. They strut their stuff they pick fights they even have humped me due to her smell being on me I wash my hands and change my clothes at this point it's only the second day but they driving me nuts I can't even do time out cage with the offender who is starting fights because all three are offenders even Ziggy who is usually so submissive is trying his had at dominating Bobo. Between the squabbles, fluffed hair, zooming through the cages... :gaah: and it never stops my only question is will they seriously hurt each other over her until she has her spay and how many times will she go through heat within two weeks??? anic:

Is she fluttering her ears for you? The boys should settle down soon enough. But ya, when people ask if it's ok to keep two intact sexes in the house, we tell them that first there's a risk of pregnancy because these guys are determined and it totally stresses out the opposite sex. You are very perceptive. A lot of people don't notice the added stress on their males. But I wouldn't worry, your boys will be ok. The heat cycle, every 5 days.

Poor boys! For some reason I thought they were neutered... in the videos of them, their testicles don't look gigantic like they usually do.

Hey jo, do all female rats go into heat every five days, or just ones that are around males? I have never noticed my girls being in heat before... what are the signs?

It's suppose to be every 5 days for all of them. But I have noticed some females are overly dramatically in heat, lol and some don't even show it. Females can also make themselves go into heat when exposed to a male.

My Shy-one was in heat yesterday, I may have got her fluttering her ears on camera but I'll have to check the footage back. If I did catch it on camera I'll make a post so you can see it, its almost like she could take off with how fast her ears were going its funny to see.
Yeah like Jo said I can be every 5 days I find when the weather is real nice they it's easier for them to go in heat for some reason.

I haven't personally noticed her ears flutter but when I pet her back she bends it sorta funny and I can feel her muscles tense up in a way. I will do further inspection. I mostly noticed due to the fact one day the boys were totally fine with me handling them after Dixie the next day after Dixie had been playing in my hair I went to go spend time with the Boys and Bobo humped my head and the boys would not leave me alone and also in the way they reacted towards each other, it was definitely off from their normal. They actually seem to be doing a lot better tonight hopefully shes out of heat now I'm seriously thinking about calling and trying to move her exam to an earlier date. But they are back to cuddling with each other which is a good sign I just don't want to deal with their attitudes through another heat cycle >.<

Not all girls will flutter their ears. I have some that didnt.

that is the in heat dance, really drives the boys wild let me tell you. You can also look at her vagina from what I have seen they are usually more open when they are in heat. You can see the opening really well.

Yeah !! That's what she is doing! Lol I thought it was weird she tights her muscles in her back when she does that too I just know my boys have been going nuts lol

I have heard that they go into heat every 4 to 5 days ...

Some girls show no signs when they are in heat,
Other girls are very obvious ... they wiggle their ears and if you pet their lower backs they will freeze and quiver.
Some girls will chase one another and hump each other ...

:? It was very weird let me tell you it was only a couple of seconds thank god and he hasn't done to since Ziggy and Marco were just humping everything tho :/ I think they were sincerely confused

I've only had a few who fluttered their ears, but I've had many girls who would chase each other around and do an amazing job of humping each other. Good entertainment on a Saturday night!

After watching those videos I now know that my girls are currently in heat. They both do those pose when I touch their lower back, and their ears flutter a bit... not as much as Shy-one, though! That's so silly. :giggle:

Omg Jinx was in heat two nights ago!!!!! I picked her up and thought that her vaginal opening was oddly, wider? Anyways it looked different.
