My Meesha is going in tomorrow to have her lump looked at. It's on her jaw.
As rats have such a high metabolic rate I was wondering what your knowledge is of fasting before an anesthetic. The vet told me just no food in the morning. I went to vet nurse school aaaages ago and I know that birds are similar: must keep feeding at all times, no major fasting. What have you guys done before surgery on your ratties?

Nope, she should definately be fed - rats can't vomit, any decent vet would know that. To starve her the night before would put her in further danger as she wouldn't have the energy to make it through the anaesthetic.

My Fiona went in three weeks ago for a spay and initially they told me to fast her, but when I second guessed them they realized their mistake and said not to fast her at all. So no fasting for rats

Oh boy. That's a little scary when the vet makes a mistake like that, but then it could be a simple brain fart. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
