Has anyone had a rat that grew an extra tooth? Yes I am serious lol. A few months ago my astra what I thought cracked her tooth. I guess that wasn't the case, because last night I could clearly see an extra tooth on top and it was white. It was a snaggle tooth so I had to trim it for her. Quite strange if you ask me, she's eating fine so that is good. I guess It could be genetic she has peds, but the litter she was from had a lot of problems. She's over 2 years old also.

Interesting!! Does she eat okay? One of my old girls split her tooth once that made it appear she had an extra tooth - the vet had to fix it because it was interfering with her eating (the vet bill was frightening!)

Rats incisors keep growing and even if they fall out could grow again.
But an extra tooth, that's different. But if it doesn't seem to bother her, I guess it shouldn't be much of a concern. Did this just happen or was she always like that?

I'll try and get a picture of it later when hubby is home to show you guys. She's eating fine actually, no weight loss. Everything I give her she eats ok. This happened within a few months ago. The tooth is right next to her upper teeth and it's pure white.

My rat has a similar "extra" tooth, that started growing fast and now i'm going to need to trim it. Does anyone know if this happens regularly? Muffin and I will appreicate any info on if this is normal or not. I can't seem to find anything about this online. :) Thanks :)

I think your best bet would be to have your vet determine if it is necessary then if it is your vet can teach you how to do it....trimming teeth can be very tricky.

Wow is this old, makes me miss astra. I do know she did fine with eating, she got big and fat lol

Did you ever get a good pic.? Neat. Just like us, sometimes these things happen. Glad it didn't interfere with her health. :)
