Erin my little girl in with my two almost unhandables Melody and Fern. She's the one who went through the shower hook and got stuck. She had a crooked jaw from it, but she could eat and groom and play so I wasn't concerned. She developed a URI a few weeks ago I guess and I treated her with baytril. I would say a week after I stopped the baytril I noticed swelling on her left side. So I made an appt with the vet and took her in on Tuesday. The vet said she had an abcess in her mouth near the molars. Which ended up bleeding at the vets. We had given her a treat on the way there and a piece of it had gotten stuck. Also behind her two top front teeth there is either a tooth or root sticking out. If it's a tooth it's possible she broke her tooth while trying to chew out of the hook. It's white, the vet took forceps and touched it and it was hard and not sensitive if that means anything. My vet is not completely sure what's happened. Erin is on baytril right now to get rid of the swelling and infection and the vet hopes that skin will grow over whatever is behind her two front teeth. Her bottom and top teeth remain even and not too long. Her one bottom tooth rests in between the front tooth and the whatever it is behind.
If it doesn't grow over the vet said we could take her down to Toronto to a specialist that could deal with this sort of thing, take xrays etc. It all depended on how much we want to spend.
I'm curious to know if the abcess clears up but the whatever it is behind the tooth remains, is this something that she can live with? I'm not too sure how much going further will cost.
Please help.
