Thora's URI is back, everyone else is fine so I guess the doxy alone wasn't strong enough for her, I have 10% liquid enrofloxacin now. She is about 250g (give or take a few grams, she doesn't sit still so it's hard to get a 100% accurate reading). The dosage on RMCA says 0.20cc/lb but that's for 2.27%, so I divided 10 by 2.27 and got 4.4, so it is 4.4x stronger. I divided 0.20 by 4.4 and got 0.045cc. Is this right? And now to see how my memory of math is... I multiplied 0.045 by her weight (0.045 * 250 = 11.25) and then 454 * 'x' (454 grams in a pound, 'x' being the unknown number; her dose) so I have 454x...divide both sides by 454, which gives me x = 0.0248. My explaining probably sucks but does that look right? lol - Is mixing that in a blob of strawberry nesquick enough to dilute it, since it's caustic at that concentration?

Also does the expiry date still apply if the bottle is opened? It has a cap similar to a water bottle. If not, is there a way to prolong it? Maybe pour some into another bottle so the one doesn't keep getting opened? It's 100mL, I'll never go through that before Nov. 2011!

10% = 100 mg/ml ?

the dose according to the rat health care book is 10mg/454.4g.

If a 10% solution means it is 100mg/ml then at 250g,
she would get 0.055 or 0.06 ml of baytril

Note: If choosing to use Baytril 10%, keep in mind it has a concentration of 100 mg per 1 mL. Also, because the 10% concentration can be so caustic to tissue it must be diluted for all routes.

but no it doesn't say on the bottle, just that it's 100mL and "Enrofloxyn 10%". It says 2cc per 1 quart of water, after 4 days 1cc per 1 quart.

If it's 100mg/ml, and she weighs 250g, going by a recommended dose of 10mg/kg, your dose for her would be 0.025cc. But it must be diluted, I use a mix of water and strawberry syrup.

Edit: Here's how I got that...

Thanks, hadn't seen that page before.
Wonder why the recommended dose is lower if measuring in Kgs then in Ibs .... for easier math as there isn't that much difference?

Interesting that the recommended dose in the Rat Health Care book is twice the recommended dose by the rmca.
I wonder if it is a difference of opinion, a typo, or if one ismore recent then the other?
