I have messy boys. Messy, selfish boys. They all hoard, and stash their share of blocks away (AKA however many they can jam in their mouths and run away with until the bowl empties) and then when they're not satisfied, they go around and try and steal EACHOTHERS blocks, which then starts the spats, and boxing matches, and squeaking.
And then they pee on them. And then mom throws them away and we all lose!
I'm also sick of cleaning up constant piles of block dust from all over the cage, and putting the unsoiled blocks back into the bowl seemingly every five minutes.
So I did some research, and decided what we needed was a food hopper. I looked at the ones they sell online, and wasn't a fan, and the DIY ones made from chicken wire or hardware cloth weren't cost effective, considering I'd need to buy a whole roll and would only use a small portion. So I decided to come up with my own.
I bought a 2 pack ziplock tupperware container for 4 bucks, cut a nice sized square hole in the front, and secured them snugly to the front of the cage with baby rings. The lids for these containers are screw on, so I like how they secure in place, and don't leave mess everywhere.
Here are some pictures of my new hoppers, and Dover demonstrating how to work 'em! So far, so good!!
