Just wondering about doxy usage and care.

My vet write me a prescription for Doxy to get filled at my local compounding pharmacy.
The girls at the pharmacy have reassured me that the doxy is good for 30 days kept at room temp and well shaken before use.

I have read that most of you are told doxy is only good for 14 days stored in the refridgerator.

Has anyone been told that doxy is good for 30 days at room temp?

Also I have another question, Toby started showing resp issues (sneezing, raspy breathing) in March. He was put on doxy + baytril combo for 30 days with success. After about two weeks of being off the combo he started showing symptoms again.
So my vet put him on just doxy. He has been on doxy on and off since then. He stays on the doxy for 1 month, symptosm go away then after 2-3 weesk they come back again, so then he goes on the doxy for a month again then he is fine for another 3 weeks.
The only symptosm are a little snezzing and raspy breathing, and thats only when he is off the doxy for 3 weeks and the raspy breathing is not very much.

I was just wondering if I should get xrays to check his heart, or if there is anything else I could try? of is just doing doxy on and off okay?

I have an appoitnment Thursday for a rck so I just want to know what I should ask.

Thanks

edit: I forgot to mention he has not lost any weight and he has a very good activity level.

Doxy compounded by the pharmacy could very well be kept for 30 days, it all depends on what they use. Most here use pills and simply add water which is why the 14 days.

What it ends up doing is called the pulse treatment. A few people have success with it and continue to do that for the rest of the rat's life. If it works, I say go for it so long as he doesn't ever get really bad. Maybe once in a while ask to add Baytril to see if you can nip it in the bud once and for all. He might just be prone to infections though and the doxy helps him clear it up as best as it can be.
