Closed eye

Hiya

I came back from college today to find my little Crissy's eye was closed :? My other rattie Angela has been what looks to me like cleaning it for the past couple of days but Cristina always squeeks when she does...does anyone know whether Angela had caused it to get worse or was trying to help?

Is it glued shut with discharge or porphyrin? Is it swollen?

Sometimes when they sleep there eyes can get crusty which causes them to get stuck closed. If it is still closed use a warm wash cloth and that should help it open. Your other rat was probably just trying to help, Cristina was probably sqeaking cause Angela was just being a little too rough.

Just keep an eye on her (LOL), because sometimes this can mean they are getting sick....

I wouldn't say it's 'glued', it just has some red crust underneath it which I guessed was blood or something. And no it's not swollen

That usually not blood its porphyrin...

If you can get your hands on some antibiotic eye ointment, it might help with whatever infection or whatnot that's going on.

Yes, that's what I would use...but I don't think you can get that in the UK.
