Silly question after having them all these years, but I've just discovered that I like chili a lot. Not something I ever fed the kids. If they like it too is it ok for them (like maybe 4 beans & sauce each)?

Oh rats loooove chili!! The beans are a good healthy protein for them too. That's the second time someone mentions chili. I think I'll be making one next week. :dancing:

oh good I don't feel so bad now, I let my girls have some of the beans from our "weiners and beans" lunch the other day.
Abby just loved them was the first thing I have ever seen her eat outside of the cage, other than yogert. :joy:

Oh yay! That's great. I guess I was concerned about their inability to burp, and we all know what they say about beans & gas at the other 'station' so I wondered if that was a problem for them

Great then. I guess everything's fine as long as I can keep Sumone out from under my covers when I'm eating chili :laugh4: (my little chewer is always sneaking under there when I'm not looking)

Oh that is too funny you guys. My husband jokes about giving the rats chili and I always tell him "you better not" :redhot:

Of course, we give them canned cooked kidney, black and pinto beans all the time...so it makes sense that chili would be ok. I just can't help but have visions of the "Mr Mom" movie, when the baby ate a can of chili. :lol2:

And thankfully, giving rats chili would not be the same as our dog......he can clear the room as it is!

ugh, mamarat, I have one girl that, like clockwork, rips one as I get home from work and am changing into pajamas. Its the tiniest noise, but oh gosh she stinks when she does. And its like she waits and aims her butt at me as retaliation for not letting them out first thing when I get home, lol.

How could I have them for 10 years and not know they f*rted?
My kids have never done that (that I noticed).
Not likely they're copying my mannerisms is it? I'm too repressed to f*rt in company of course..... But we're family!
10 years of ratties and I didn't know theydid that. Just goes to show you how little you can know about someone you live with.
Of course I never gave them f*rt -causing foods like chile or beans (other than yellow or green). I guess I just mixed up no beverages with bubbles with Avoid Gas..

This was how we discovered that you shouldn't give them broccoli every single day. We had them running around the couch when there was this horrible smell... I turned to Chaz and gave him stink eye (pun intendend!) and said "Chaz! Sheesh! That's disgusting!" He looked shocked and indignant, and said, "It wasn't me! It was....him!" (pointing to Trajan)

I said, "Oh, good one, blame the rats now!"

It really was Trajan though....
