Casper is a liverpool baby ... he was two years old in May.
Casper is on benazepril, atenolol, lasix and digoxin for chf, baytril, and has hed.
Casper has been experiencing breathing difficultly since early Monday so I upped the lasix in both amount and frequency and have also been giving sub-Q fluids.
Casper's breathing sounded very loud and conjested and I found a lump under his chin on Monday.
Made a vet apt for the earliest possible date which was this afternoon.
Casper has an abcess that is making breathing and eating difficult. (I was afraid of this ... esp since one of his aunts and one of his older siblings had to be pts because of aggressive tumours on their faces and necks.) His lungs sound fine.
The vet didn't find any abnormal cells but given the inflamation, if cells were present it would be unlikely that they would be found.
Casper's doctor recommended treatment so the abcess was lanced and material removed.
Casper is now off lasix and both gentamicin and chlorpalm have been added.
The abcess is very very deep .... possibly a tooth abcess or into the bone .... although his teeth seem fine.
Since both godmother and I lost rats over the summer to infections that were sensative to only gentamicin and chlorpalm these antibiotics are being tried.
Casper was also put on metacam so I guess I'll be holding off on the chlorpalm until I have a chance to speak to the vet.
Any other suggestions for meds, etc?
