Can Rats Get Worms?

I have never heard of rats getting worms, but they are mammals and I suppose that it is possible.
I have no idea how one would go about diagnosing and treating this.
What makes you suspect worms in your rats?

They seem very itchy in 'that' area....

They can get worms, but it is not common. You should be able to get meds from your vet for it. Any chance it might be mites or lice?

Pinworms are in your rats all the time, but sometimes they can become a problem. Each type of endoparasite has a different treatment, so if you think your rat has worms and are that concerned enough, then you go to the vet and ask for a fecal test to discover what parasites you are dealing with and then get treated.

It isn't listed in the previous link, but I wonder if revolution would also be useful for treating pinworms and other types of roundworms in rats. Cat revolution kills mites etc and also "treats and controls roundworms (Toxocara cati) and hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme)." (Dog revolution does not treat roundworms & hookworms.)

Thanks. They were recently treated with Revolution because I found a couple of lice in the bedding box under their cage. I've washed everything and replaced the old woven box with a plastic one. But both Rosie and Charlotte seem to clean themselves alot down there and seem itchy, I haven't seen them do it and I'm not sure if they could but it reminds me of a dog scooting their bum along the ground when it's itchy.
Looks like another trip to the vet.
