that i can use as reference?

My rat Louis ate his medicine (Septra) perfectly every day for 10 days after the neuter, and his wound is healing really well.

My rat Maurice didn't eat ALL the medicine every day, and his healing seems to be way behind. I can't tell whether or not he has an infection, but it's not healing as clean and as fast as Louis. It seems to be going much slower.

I would love some photos of a normal, healing neuter wound that i can reference to so i can make sure if it's going alright or if i need to take him back to the vet. i really don't want him to be in pain, and it's stressing me out. :(

Neuters should heal really quickly, what's concerning you with your boys?

These are my boys the night of their neuter... they healed super quickly, I didn't take any other pics.

Some rats heal slower or faster than others, just like people. Have their testicles shrunken? Does anyone look red or swollen or the incision is infected? If not, then don't worry. I don't use antibiotics after neuters anymore, usually abscesses occur because of other reasons then just a post-op infection.

Louis' testicle area has shrunken a lot, but Maurice's has not.

When I brought him home from the vet, he touched his wound a little and it was red and it kind of just scabbed over ever since and never went away. My rat Louis didn't touch his and his looks great. I'm worried that there is an infection and i don't know it, and he's in pain or worse. :\

should I take him to the vet? It's been almost 2 weeks and his wound has not healed completely and it still looks the same as it did 1 week after the surgery.

also, he might be prone to abscess' because when he got a bite from Louis, it got infected and he has a big abscess. i'll try to take a photo

take a pic, and we'll let you know. How long has it been since the neuter?
2 weeks on tuesday.
i tried taking a picture but my rats are so spastic that i can't do it. lol

i looked at it today and it seems to look better and smaller, but i'm not 100% sure. he is still active, eating normally, everything is the same so i don't think he's in pain but you never know

Most vets do post op check ups for free if necessary. If you are unsure, you can ask the vet to look at it even for peace of mind and it should be no charge.

really??

because that would be amazing :\
i didn't even think to call and ask if they do this. thanks!!

Yes most will do the post op for free.

I got my Raybeam from the shelter 4 days after his neuter and 4 weeks later he still looked and felt like he had half a testie left so I freaked and brought him to my vet. After feeling it he said it was scar tissue just swelling and could take 4 months for swelling in certain rats to go down. It did almost take about 3 months and he was great.

But if its irritated and red or puffy I would bring him in for a recheck.
