Mr. Jingles, my two year old ratty broke his leg a couple of months ago. It was swollen and looked really bad but my husband got him some children's motrin and after a few days of rest it seemed to heal ok.
The thing is that Mr.Jingles is very overweight and I guess that the extra weight was too much for the broken leg because it is now swollen again and getting worse. I've read on this forum that a vet can't do much for a broken leg but should I take him anyway, just because his leg has been swollen (sometimes better, sometimes worse) for a couple of weeks now? Is there anything else I can do? I was thinking of putting Mr. Jingles in a small one-level cage so that he can't move round so much. i don't know what to do.

If nothing else, he should go to a vet to get a stronger pain med, and so it can have a look over to make sure there's not something crazy like fluid buildup.

A one level cage is probably a good idea as well.

That's not a broken leg. It actually looks like a tumour, perhaps it isn't, but go to a vet rather than using children meds.

It *could* be swollen from a break more in the shoulder area or something... but it does look like it could be something else entirely.

It could be a tumor except that zippy said that sometimes the swelling is better and sometimes worse which doesnt sound like a tumor to me. I would also recommend seeing a vet to make sure there isnt some underlying condition.

That looks similar to a huge fat deposit. Since you say your boy is big to begin with, that's probably all that it is, there's no need to remove that.

But... does your boy appear in pain? Does the lump grow or has it stayed the same size for the two weeks now? The other thing could be is a tumour in which case you could have it removed depending on your boy's overall health.
