Today I found a bump on one of my big boys bellies about an inch above his private area.... I've been noticing a change in his behavior lately. he's been sleeping a lot more and when the cage door opens he doesn't run to it like the others. He is about a year old.

The bump is squishy and doesn't feel attached... not sure what a tumor feels like and i'm not sure what it is. a Costly vet visit isn't an option right now. money is tight at the moment. to the point where i've opted out of getting christmas until January.

should i start daily ensure supplements? Currently they get it about once a week.

If it's a tumor, you want to keep his diet to no added sugar or anything. Do you think it might be an abscess? It might not hurt to do a warm compress to try to bring it to a head, if it is.

i came home after work and got brain to sit still for a bit... we are having cage cleaning day and it looks to be an abscess, there is a small black dot right at the center... Ive already put a warm compress on it once. hopefully we can hit this before it gets nasty

a small black dot at the centre is a good sign. Keep up the compresses, chances are in the next few days if you pick that dot off you will have an opening, or it will just open itself, and you can express whats in there. If so remember to put your fingers at the very base of the whole abnormality and gently squeeze it up toward the surface, you don't want to push any bad stuff deeper where it can get in the bloodsteam or anything...

It definitely looks like an abscess to me. My boy Ludo had one very similar to that. It's not easy to see in this picture, but sorta... it's right around his black spot. In his case, it resolved itself the next day.

so today is day two of brains abscess... i had a warm compress for the third time and the abscess popped and i'm pretty sure I got all the puss out. it was a pea green color and stank like poop... will it heal on its own or will i need to empty it several times?

No, you have to go to a vet.

I have two girls on antibiotics for abscesses right now. They're both on Baytril, which you can get from your vet.

not all abscesses need abs to heal up, but it certainly can help (a LOT).....

glad that it's only an abscess and nothing scarier. They sure are nasty and smelly though! LOL

Took brain to the vets today and I'm really glad i did.

First off everyone was oggling him. Everyone petted him and scratched him. He was fine untill they took him away from me. He was pooping on everyone. They came back with him in a towel telling me he's pooping a lot and he didn't poop once more
:giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

He was in a fight awhile ago and has had a large scab on his back for awhile. i didn't think anything of it... well they picked open the scab and out came the same looking puss. :sick2: He has another infection on his back. I left with baytrill. i have to cut it into 1/8ths and give him it twice a day.

so being a nice mommy I went to wally world and bought him some new babyfood... Apples & blueberries and he loves it plus some of those flavored like tike puffs things...? They also told me to flush out the biggest spot with some peroxide and make sure to rise it out with water afterward.

He ate his medicine like a big boy. i just put him in with his family and he is currently snuggled w/ his brother already asleep.

Thanks for urging me to the vet.. really relieved now...

UGH... the poor, little, guy!!!

Abscesses can be really revolting. :sick2: :sick2: :sick2: :sick2: :sick2: :sick2: :sick2:

I'm so happy that he is on the mend! :bunnydance: :bunnydance: :bunnydance:

I'm also happy that I got to read about his nasty abscesses... I'm trying to lose my Thanksgiving weight and this DEFINITELY helps! :giggle:

So good he's getting antibiotics. Make sure it's kept clean of gunk inside while it heals, if the outside heals while there's still bad stuff inside it could just get worse..

day two of antibiotics...

Still working on getting the green puss out of the larger abcess but its close to coming out

the smaller abscess has stopped emmitting a thick green puss but now its a thin yellow scentless liquid
