Rose, Guild, Freyr and Loki are taking an adventure to the vet tomorrow. There's nothing seriously wrong with them, but Guild is now making the same noise Rose was making a while back, and he's sneezing. Rose has been doing a fair amount of hiccuping over the past couple days. I think Freyr and Loki are fine, save for the occasional sneeze. I just want to get their breathing checked, and their overall health, because after about 2 weeks on baytril last time, they didn't seem to stay better.

But everybody's still lively and active! No complaints there. I just want to make sure things are good.

I'll update you guys on everything once we get back. :3

I've heard so many suggestions to medication for myco, I'm honestly confused. Some people say atleast 10 days, others 2 weeks, some three, four, and then 6 weeks. Gah! It's confusing!

I wish there was some way I could give the boys baytril in another form... I've been giving it to them in a dallop of cheese whiz, but I'm sure twice dailt cheese whiz for 6 or so weeks wouldn't be good for them. >_<

Well, tomorrow I'm hoping to get an answer for sure.

see if they will take it with ensure... raina sure liked it that way...tho once we didnt put quite enough ensure and she just gave us a look like "uuum.. excuse me,... you expect me to drink that? pfffft... " lol.. we filled the spoon with more ensure and she lapped that up fast..lol..
so why not try that?? lol

What I did is put the baytril in the syringe, wipe of the syringe (so the smell of meds would go away) put vanilla soy milk in the syringe and turn up and down to mix it and gave it to Pearl that way. No fuss no muss for her, she laped it up like a treat. She loved it. It may work for your boys.

Really? You can do that with the pill-form of Baytril?

Rats need to be treated for myco for a min of 6 weeks or as you experienced, the symptoms will come right back.

That is what the Rat Health Care book says and I have found it to be true from several years of personal experience.

I agree that 6 weeks is needed if the lungs are badly affected. But if it's something nasally or very mild, then 10 to 14 days is ok.

Sorry I had the liquid type.

I use liquid baytril as well.
It is easy to measure out and mix with other things to make it taste good so they will eat it.
Even crushed pills would never work with my crew ... Ralphie spits out even the tiniest lumps .....

Just an update on the boys. They went to the vet yesterday, and everything checked out good. Their lungs were perfectly clear, though. I asked the doctor if he wouldn't mind giving me some baytril anyway, just because Rose and Guild are making crackly noises and that guinea pig whooping noises. He gave me enough for I believe 14 days.

OH! I got them weighed, too! Their weights are as follows: (tell me if they're good weights for them)

Guild - 410grams
Freyr - 440grams
Loki - 490grams
Rose - 580grams!
