I sometimes boil whole cloves and cinnamon sticks to scent up the apt- the place I live is very old, over 100yrs old and can smell kinda funky sometimes

I'm just wondering if this can cause resp symptoms for a rat with resp problems?

reason I ask is that it was warm today and I had the windows open instead, so didn't boil the spices,
and Brenna seemed so much better.

maybe the boiled spices irritated her lungs?

i googled it but didn't find anything..........except it says for ppl with asthma it's better to boil spices than to use air fresheners, which I'd read before and is the reason I do this, I have mild asthma and bad allergies

What about burning eucalyptus instead? It's suppose to help with lung issues.
I do agree, if you can keep it at a minimum it would be better. Any kind of smoke is not good to breathe in.

I use cinnamon in a home remedy of sorts for colds and I wouldn't think it'd be irritating to the respiratory tract. If you were burning it yes, because smoke is irritating no matter what but if you're boiling it, it would be no different than using it in cooking or baking.

there was no smoke involved, it was whole cloves and a couple of cinnamon sticks in a pot of water, you bring it to a boil and then let it simmer for a few minutes, then take it off the stove

it's one of the things that's recommended for ppl with asthma, so I figured it's gotta be safe

in fact, in a couple of places it said it might help if you had congestion

I was just grasping at anything i could think of that might be causing my girl to go downhill but it wasn't the cloves and cinn, she continued to decline regardless of boiling the spices or not

i was hoping that there was more i could do to keep her with me longer is all
