Can I give them to my girlies as a treat? If so do you just boil an egg, let it cool and let them have at it? ... I would assume this should be done in moderation - how often would you treat them with an egg?

I know it's been mentioned in other posts that ratties enjoy devouring a hard boiled egg, I just didnt know if this could be done with normal, healthy adults (or just seinors)

What about the babykins? could they have a little snack? Assuming that an entire hard boiled egg would be much too much for the two little stinkers, so maybe just a little bit?

Just curious

Like you already pointed out, once in a while is ok.
I would try it on the young ones as well. Leaving the shell on might be a fun adventure for them. Some rats though might give up so you might want to crack it a bit for them.

Make sure the egg yolk is not overcooked so as not to "dry" it out. I had a rat choke on egg yolk. But he was ok after though.

I gave my three girls a boiled egg to fight over about a month ago... I just peeled away a little bit of shell at one end. They loved it, and it really kept them busy, what with all the stealing and then climbing all over the cage to keep it away from one another.

2 hours later they were all fast asleep, and had eaten a little over half of the egg... so I threw out the rest.

They have such fun with an egg in the shell! I'll never forget SQ's Cindy hauling her first egg into the cage and up the ramps.

With my girls I sometimes chop one egg into tiny pieces to share. One egg would do the seven foster girls and my ten older girls. It sounds like I'm being stingy, but an egg goes a long way. They all loved it, and they all got at least three pieces.

So the ladies had at it! And had alot of fun....I dont think they TOTALLY grasped the concept but hey they had a blast.
After they got bored with eating I took the rest of the egg away so they didnt wind up eating the entire thing
"What the heck is this thing mom?"

So an egg would be okay to give to our three boys? The *entire* egg? The WHOLE thing?!?

It sounds like your girls sure had a blast! I'm gonna try it with "da boyz," too! I can't wait to see their reactions!

They really did have a fun time playing with the WHOLE egg - i didnt let them eat the entire thing between the 3 of them....
They had it during their "out time" so they kinda got distracted after a while... and then i gave them a little bit of cut up peices in their house after...

Hopefully they have as much fun as my gang did!! :D

I tried that as well. It was hilarious watching them tear into it and continuously dropping it down the stairs. Definitely have photos somewhere!
