I just discovered my Lou with his nose and front paws covered with what looks like blood. It's a darker red then the normal red 'snot'. He's also sneezing a lot. We just finished a course of Baytril about a week ago.

Our normal vet is closed today and I can't find an emergency vet that will see him. I don't drive so my options are limited.

Any suggestions as to what this could be and what I can do until tomorrow morning?

He might just have scratched his nose. Are you able to wipe away some of the blood to see if it's coming from one nostrils or both? Has he lost a lot of blood?

Right now keep him warm and hydrated, offer him things like ensure and baby cereal.

It looks like it only coming from the left nostril. It looked like a lot compared to his size. it's not a fast bleed, but it's steady.

What you describe does sound like blood.

Keeping your ratty warm & hydrated, & watching for any signs of worsening, is good. I

It is worrying that it is still coming steadily. Bleeding from the inside is hard to deal with, because you can't use pressure or cornstarch to stop it. Keeping him still would be helpful. I will see what I can find about foods with lots of Vitamin K (it helps clotting).

ETA: Very High VitaminK foods include kale, chard, brussels sprouts,
High amounts in blackeyed peas and plums,
Medium amounts are found in peas & tuna (which he would certainly wolf down unless he is feeling terrible)

Such a relief that the bleeding stopped! If he is still sneezing, I wonder if he had the Baytril for long enough? If it was for two weeks or less, you may need to give it for longer. Some vets recommend four to six weeks, especially for a recurrence of a respiratory infection.

Yay for no more blood! His sneezing could be directly connected to the nosebleed, he may have something up in there that he was scratching at or something. If you're still seeing sneezing tomorrow I'd be off to the vet but you're probably in the clear for now.
