I tried these with my crew, but they never liked them! I know seedless red grapes are also good for tumors.

Great! Keep us updated on how well it works.
My sister gives her rats blueberries every single day and I swear her rats are super healthy.

i guess my guys are lucky we have them growing in the garden (during spring) and they eat them just fine. but they do spit out the seeds which is funny to watch

Any antioxidant rich food is a wonderful addition to their diets (and ours!) and help reduce the possibility of cancers.

Blueberries are my 'weapon' of choice - it's hilarious if I give it to them when the berries are still frozen, they'll GRAB it, then realize it's cold and drop it, and then gingerly eat it. The purple rat paw prints everywhere are particularly fun :)

I assumed that a black raspberry and a blackberry were different names for the same fruit and they are not. I have never seen a black raspberry for sale here fresh or frozen. Does anyone know a chain of supermarkets that carries them?

Black raspberries are SMALL, like, the end of your pinkie finger. They are sweeter than blackberries, and the seeds don't hurt your teeth. Blackberries tend to be larger than both black raspberries or red raspberries, and the seeds are as big as tomato seeds, and they are more sour, and tend to be used in pies.

Black raspberries are one of my FAVORITE foods, I grew up with a wild bramble of them in my backyard, and had a friend with a large enough patch that we would make juice out of them. They make a fantastic Jam as well. But they aren't typically available in stores that i've seen.

I have them growing in my back yard. They are not blackberries. Blackberries have much larger, thicker canes and larger (thumb sized) fruit that is blander in flavour and sourish. Black raspberries have thin, flexible canes that don't bramble like red raspberry canes, and the fruit is smaller than red raspberries, purply-black and intensely raspberry flavoured, even more intense than red raspberries. They're yummy!

i want to say we have black raspberries then, but i would say they are the same size as the red ones. maybe a touch smaller

In the summer, I was giving my rat blueberries but now I don't see really see blueberries in the grocery store. I don't know if blueberries are out of season now or not. Maybe if I look around more I can find a store that has blueberries.

But I read in the article that it only works in helping to prevent tumors before they appear.

Anyway, here are my three points:

1. Since I wasn't able to get blueberries, I started giving him a small piece of organic apple every morning (without the skin cause he doesn't eat the skin). Apples contain quercetin which I believe is an antioxidant too and helps strengthen the immune system. Quercetin also helps with allergies.

2. I also went to the grocery store and bought frozen berries. It was a mix of raspberries, black raspberries, and blueberries. He does eat them. I only give him like half a black raspberry because I don't want him to get diarrhea from eating too much fruit.

3. In the past, I gave him these berry tablets. They are a variety of different berries crushed up and made into tablets. You can buy them at Shopper's Drug Mart. I think I'll start giving him some again.

What brand was this? I go to shoppers a lot, I'd like to read the ingredients and look at the label next time I'm there. I'd be interested to see if it would still have all the healthy chemicals/vitamins that are in fruits, even as tablet form.

I have the box: It's called Nativa Organics, Blueberry & Black Currant Supplement. It contains: organic whole blueberry, organic whole black currant,

non-medicinal ingredients: organic maple sugar, organic maltodextrin, organic acacia gum, organic palm oil.

So it does contain some other stuff in it. I don't know if that stuff is unhealthy for rats or not but it's not like you'd be giving them a lot at a time.

Fresh or frozen berries probably are better then, now that I think about it.
