Bill had a small lump on his left side, and it was removed this morning. I just called, and they said he ate after surgery and is now sleeping.

Such a relief. Even though it was not expected to be complicated, I worried. I hated leaving him alone in the carrier. He is a sweetie, calm and loveable. he'll get extra TLC tonight.

ETA: It was benign, and from the description it sounded a lot like a dried-up dermoid cyst.

10:30 pm The little bugger has managed to pull out a stitch.

Awww wonderful Bill!

I always bring a companion rat in even for surgeries. Only if its complicated like an eye removal etc will I not.

Glad to hear he did well *breathe*

Everyone at the clinic loves him. He's a big squish, my biggest rat ever at about 690g, and very sweet & gentle.

I have him in the hospital cage right now, with some turkey soup and mushed lab blocks and lettuce. And, of course, his SnuggleSafe.

We have to watch that he doesn't take out his stitches again, like he did at the vet's today.

He was given something at the time of surgery, and I can give him metacam every morning. Probably there are some internal stitches, but I don't know for sure. If there's a big gap I will feel obliged to have hubby take him in there in the morning (I am leaving town early for a workshop, alas)

Hubby took him in, to be sure, but he was OK. At least today he was with his buddy Ronnie. It is hard to be away.

Two of the rats on meds are acting up, not taking their meds, & my husband was beside himself with worry and frustration.
