What's the biggest vet bill you have gotton at once?

I got the bill today for the walk in I had 3 days ago with: Eve (abscess lance+drain+clean) ..Ryder (tumor check + 2 slides) ..Badger (abscess lance + drain) ..and today for the removal of Eve's eye + abscess drain+clean+lance ..and Ryders tumor removal + sent away ..and it came to ........$1100

wow...that is a huge bill.
My biggest vet bill was my dog had cancer and had to have his leg amputated....my vet is my friend so she gave me as many deals as she could on things....and my total bill was $3000....

In 2005 - Freya's tumour removal/pre-op exam at High Park :sick2: - $1,036.14...she was pts 5 months later for $275.00...I guess she was my most expensive rat. :giggle:

In 2006 - Brie, Valora, Vesta, Kyrie, Kamali's spays and baytril for post-op - $1,183.29 (and this is when I was just another pet rat owner) :emb:

We paid $1300 earlier this year for two lump removals (one took over an hour of OR time so it was very expensive) and an implant. That hurt.

For rats? $150, the one from today, for the exam/meds for Vin and the meds for Whiskers.

Biggest over all, for my cat, $900. He has FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease), meaning his urinary tract was totally blocked with urinary crystals, he couldn't pee and his kidneys were failing. Four days at the vet, surgery to clear the crystals, plus all the other little stuff they charge you for. Not bad, really, considering people have spent a lot more. Thank goodness that I'm one of the few owners that my vet still allows to keep an account and pay off bit by bit, or I probably would have had to have him PTS. Suffice to say, I keep very close track of his bladder/bowel movements nowadays. Sounds gross, but you'd be surprised how much you can tell about an animals health based on pee and poop. He would have died within twelve hours of when we brought him to the vet if I hadn't realized he wasn't peeing.

I have an account at my vet and I pay it off when I can ..but they do it for very few people.

I imagine you got yours the same way; being a long term customer and spending tons and tons of money! xD

Yeah, my other vet office (the one my dog and cat see) used to allow anyone to keep an account, but I guess they had lots of people not paying up, so now they don't do that anymore, and only the few of us who had been going there a long time and had good "credit" with them were allowed to keep our accounts open. I try to pay everything off on the day, but sometimes I just don't have the money, so it's definitely a Godsend. Even moreso at the time my cat got sick, because I was only a junior in high school with a part-time job on the weekends. I had to pay it off in $20 chunks, but I got it paid off. He's a healthy old fart now, at least. Other than having acne. Ever heard of a cat with acne? Me neither. xD

$300 at once..but over all Id say around a few thousand.... I had one rat(willard) alone that I spent $800....

If one of my rats only cost $800 Id be laughing!

My guys were never overly sick...and none of my males ever got tumors or needed to be fixed..they got along well..so I got real lucky lol...

lol yes! I got my males fixed, just because I wanted them to live with females & I mommas babies all have/had have really bad genes ..

Clod is my most expensive ratty. *snuggles him* Between the e-vet visit, the leg amputation, and meds, it was over $800 at once.

When we first got our dog Luna about three and a half years ago, we ended up having to take her to the emergency vet that night because she was lethargic. Turned out she had pneumonia and a collapsed lung. That was over a thousand, I believe... And last year, we spent (I believe) several thousand dollars we did not have because our cat Felix ended up losing a lot of weight, which we later found out was an auto-immune disorder. Luckily Luna made it, but Felix did not :(

Just take any one of Shelagh's vet bills ($1000), and have that multiplied by 3 for one spay/umbilical hernia repair, and two tumor removals. Also chuck in about $400 for an utterly useless x-ray just to tell me Princess' foot had arthritis (right, she sprained it, it was fine within a week). Add in half a dozen rounds of antibiotics with weekly checkups during said treatments... Then there was the final set of charges... she died in the night before her vet appointment, and they charged me full price.

All told? I think Princess netted about $5000ish. But then she really was my Princess. :) And whenever I so much as *whisper* High Park Animal hospital around my Mom, she looks around for an axe to chase them down with...

I think the biggest single bill I've gotten so far was about $800 but that was for two cat's dentals
a lot of stuff was done that wasn't necessary nor requested, but that seems to be standard operating procedure for vets now,
charge those clients who take good care of their pets as much as they possibly can ("optimize" your profit on each and every vet visit) to make up for the ppl who are not taking their pets to the vet any more at all due to the poor economy

gotta love it.....

and then they have the nerve to suggest that you shouldn't have pets if "you can't afford them"

I can afford reasonable vet care, it's getting taken to the cleaners for things you didn't need or want that I can't afford.

if only rich people had pets, there'd be a WHOLE lot more homeless pets. People should not be so damn judgmental

ok, rant over! the previous post reminded me of all the times I've been screwed over by a vet looking to make as much as they could, regardless of who it hurt.
