I just tried putting some shredded paper in my girls cage to see if they'd like it...and they ate it! I can't figure out how to get them to leave the bottom layer of towels down. I always put an extra "cage sized" towel bunched up for them, and then some small scraps of towel. They end up with the entire house filled with every bit of towel, and then pee and poo all over the plastic bottom. :(
Someone suggested using binder clips, but the bottom of the cage is 5" deep (plastic basin) and if I did that it would be so loose that I'm sure they would end up underneath the towel anyway!! Am I just destined to have to scrub dried stuff off the bottom every night?

On a good note, Madison let me scratch her head/pat her for 20 minutes today! I adopted them over a week ago and she hadn't even stayed still for 1 second until today :D It was lovely. Mackenzie still doesn't love the affection but will sit still and brux on my shoulder or my hand.

I used to use velcro, but they ALWAYS pulled it up, now I got a piece of corrugated plasticc, cut it to the size of the bottom of the cage, then rap your fleece around the corrugated plastic , attach it with binder clips then just put it in the bottom of the cage. :D It works well ( thought it gets chewed a lot, but what DOESN'T haha)

Oh thanks! I'm nervous to put anything plastic or unnatural in there because they eat everything! I put a jingle ball in there and they chewed through it in 5 minutes, and it didn't seem like I had enough scraps to account for what was missing. I'll try that though, and see if they don't notice lol

You could put newspaper at the bottom of the cage, place several layers, they might leave some down. You could also place small bits of fabric on top of the newspaper.

Cinderwolf, thank you! So far your idea is working great :D

I just took a flat Rubbermaid storage container lid and cut it down to the right size.

Glad I could help, I learned that trick on this site, so far I have had no one pulling the fleece off haha.
