Baytrill 100 mg / ml

I usually use the 25 mg / ml, but it tastes horrible (the 100 mg/ml tastes nothing) and it's quite a lot of fluid to get into the rats (they spit it out) - so can I put the 100 mg / ml direct in the mouth? on the bottle it says dilute in drinking water, which I don't do. Hubby being a scientist I can get dosage-kit to get the right amount even if it's very small amounts.

I have my 50 mg/ml baytril mixed with a banana suspension and I just pop it into their mouths. you would be giving 1/4 what you were giving with your weaker baytril. We never put baytril in water here...we use water to mix the crushed pills and flavour with other things, but not in drinking water.

Some vets actually say put it in the drinking water, because it says so on the bottle, so it's difficult to explain to the not so knowing that it's wrong to do so.

Bati, I know what you mean. If only all the vets were more knowledgeable about small animals, they would already know that it's not a good idea to put meds in the drinking water.
What you could tell your vet is that you've noticed that rats wills top drinking and dehydrate when something is put in their water.

My main question is - can I drop concentrated baytrill direct in the mouth? I can manage to dosage it, but have no idea if it's too strong for the tongue (if I can it'll be so much easier because 0,05 ml instead of 0,2 will go down quickly)

That's a good question... I'm not sure of the answer though. I don't think it should hurt, if it's the right dose.

I have heard of people doing oral doses of 100 mg/ml...just make sure your doses are correct like Jo says, and it should be fine.

One of the oral baytrils I use is compounded to 100mg/1ml and I will either pull the dose up and put it right into their mouths or mix it with some wet food and give it to them that way. The stuff I have is also flavored tutti-frutti so it is more palatable.

Its fine to give straight, it just tastes terrible.

I mix half/half with a flavouring solution so that my rats actually want to drink the Baytril. (I use pina colada mix, and strawberry nesquik... separately of course)

Thank you so much - no matter what I mix in the 25 mg/ml it tastes so horrible they don't want it, so it'll be much easier now
