Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat but I didn't see it in search.

What age do you think it's OK to give baytril at? Most sites seem to say not to give under 3-4 months and a couple say not under 8 months. My boy Barret is on it now for an abcess and he's only 10 weeks old. He's only had 3 doses so far. It's been prescribed for my other two young rats who are 3 months old, but I haven't given them any yet.

OK thanks, I got an appointment with a different vet for Thursday, it was the earliest they could book me. I'll keep giving it to him til then and if they want to change it they can...Then he will have only had it for a week, but I really don't want him on nothing until then.
Anyone have opinions on whether to give abx before an abcess bursts or wait until it does? I read somewhere...that someone said to wait til it bursts so that the pus doesn't get trapped inside, and when I called the vet tech she agreed. (This is for Theodor's)

A lot of people wait until it looks like the abscess won't heal on it's own before doing Baytril while others only do Baytril and no soaking/compresses. Both works equally fine. Abscesses are the easiest to take care of, unless you get a real stubborn one.
