Hi,
I was recently part of a rescue of two litters of young babies from a snake breeder. In the two weeks I've had these babies one has been having a lot of respiratory problems, sneezing, hiccuping, ad chirping several times a day. She eats real welly, is active, and happy, but sounds terrible!
She's been on an antibiotic that the rescue gave me, known as TMS, for about a week with little to no improvement and I was planning a vet appointment for Sunday to get a different antibiotic but then realized I have refills on azithromycin that was originally prescribed in combo with doxy for a couple of my older rats. Should I try using that? Does anyone know if it's safe/successful in very young rats? (She's only about 5 weeks) According to the rat med guide ... "Safe for use in pregnant does and rats under 4 months." But I still like to double check especially since she's SO young.
Or am I better off going to the vet for something different? I know baytril is successful in babies but my vet told me before that the baytril he has is very expensive, I'm not unwilling to pay for that if it's needed but if the azithromycin has the possibility of helping and saving me the hour drive, why not give it a try? Thoughts? Thank you!
