I was wondering what the average adult female weighs? I think my Flower needs to go on a diet she weighed 1 lb. and 2.5 oz. My oldest Lilly weighed 15.4 oz. and Jazmine who is so tiny and petite weighed 9.5 oz. My new babies weighed in at 4 oz each, just so you know in comparison how small Jaz is. Everybody else weighed in below Lilly and above Jaz.

So Starla may grow a little between now and a few months.

Flower is huge for a girl and I worry about her health. She is a wheel runner, so maybe she is just big but relatively healthy.

The rest of my girls weigh in at 15 to 14 ounces and are all in between 16 months and 10 months. Rose is a hoss to she is 10 months and weighs 14.1 ounces

I don't think we can give a number for an ideal weight, each rat is different but a slim rat, you should see well defined legs, so they don't blend in with the stomach, no rolls when she sits.
Look for a wild squirrel, and that's what slim healthy rat should look like.
Keep in mind most of us don't have rats as slim as a wild squirrel or chipmunk but better slim than obese.

I have a few of them. they are on low-fat, low protein diets but refuse to lose weight. :) My biggest girl Kyrie is 525 grams. That is what your girl is at when you convert the ounces to grams (16 ounces is a pound right?)

I cannot find a pic of Terra my chunky agouti unfortunately, and here's a bad pic of Kyrie the big girl drinking from the bottle.

How old is your Flower? What's her diet regime right now? When they are older they often get middle aged spread and there's only so much you can do about it. Is she active and happy and healthy?

Yeah, 16 oz = 1 lb.

Flower is about 15-16 months give or take a month. She is happy, healthy and fairly active almost all of my girls are wheel runners.

They have OxBow available at all times and right now their dinner schedule is Monday (a mixture of beans) Tuesday(broccoli and oysters) Wednesday (Bananas and grapes)Thursday(sweet potato) Friday (greens beans and peas) Saturday (Salt free Veg All, which is mostly potato and carrots) and Sunday (nothing) I give them Cheerios, low fat yogurt and sugar free banana chips for a treat. Sometimes the veggies change depending on the season.

You know I once read that if you paint your walls yellow that for some reason the color will cause a rat to eat more and gain less. I might try this theory out, but it will have to be when the BF is at work he would flip if he knew I wanted to paint the walls yellow

Your rats are on a very good meal plan. I wouldn't change it.

I too have read something about yellow but more that it makes rats happier. But how did they find that out?

If I remember right they had two groups of rats one group in a yellow room the other group in a darker colored room. And by comparison the rats in the yellow room ate more and gained less, when the rats in the darker room ate less and gained more.

I wonder if the happy part is what makes them eat more and maybe more active since they are happier.

Its worth a try my girls are in a dark green room, so yellow would make it a happier place to be.

I think Flower is just a big girl, Rose is definitely following in her footsteps she is 14.8 ounces at 10 months, so I figure she will be Flowers size by the time she is a year old.

I love Flowers squishyness, she gets in my hand a presses her body into it so I will pet her. She is super sweet, you just have watch your face because she likes to grab what she can with her teeth. She doesn't give licks she gives teeth

I lost my biggest girl recently, Peri, who weighed in at a whopping 1.5 lbs! Which is more than what my biggest boy weighs now. Here's a picture of her in all her tubby glory from January of this year. At the time, I thought free-feeding Suebee's and providing huge dinners every night was a grand idea - I soon learned the error of my ways when quite a few of my rats ballooned in size. That's Russia on the left, Peri on the right.

All of my girls, besides Hazel (Peri's sister) are all under a year old and are 200-300 grams. Hazel, who is 2 1/2 to 3 years old is about 430 grams. Thankfully, now everyone's a healthy size with the modified diet plan :)

I am so sorry about Peri's passing. She was absolutley adorable with her big black eyes.

That is about how Flower looks she is all belly. They really do not get all that much more to eat other than OxBow at all times. I have 10 oz. bowls so between six rats, soon to be eight it is not to much food.

I love Flowers squishyness.

Maybe that's why my girls are so lean... they are in a butter-yellow and gold coloured area... and no matter what they're given they stay lean. Well, Emma gained massive weight when they were on meds, but they were eating everything under the sun when I was trying to get meds into them!! She's more average now, but Maeby and Lucille are both slender.. lately I've been thinking they are too thin, and have been trying to add more weight to them.

But rats are pretty much color-blind!

Lafawnda, 22 months 575g! She just loves to eat. You can't really see her neck
Rapunzel, 20 months 475g she looks slender though and is very athletic
Chailyn 24 months 450g. She has 6 tumors though. She was around 470 recently but the tumors are sucking the life out of her. I can feel the bones on her back :(

Here are my girls' weights as of tonight. All of them, besides Hazel (who's around 3 years old) are a year old or a little younger.

Hazel - 410 grams
Emma - 330 grams
Fergie - 325 grams
Maddie - 370 grams
Faroe - 330 grams
Encephalon - 285 grams (growth spurt!)
Eva - 395 grams

Lily = 326g – 11.5oz
Hazel = 269g – 9.5oz
Ruby my smallest = 255g – 9oz

Melissa Starla is in between my Hazel and Lily. They all look healthy and are 9 months now. Same age as Starla as well. Ruby has amazing body shape. Actually all of them do. But I would say Ruby is in the 'squirrel' category. HEHE

My current girlies vary hugely in weight ... my smallest girl is Quiver, she weighs just under 200g ... my largest girly at the moment is Zealia, weighing in at 595g!
