Ashley MacIsaac goes in for his neuter tomorrow ... weather permitting as we seem to be having a large storm that may last for awhile.

When I picked up this huge girl with testicles eleven days ago, he was a 3 month old baby boy.
Since them he has developed into a testrone filled young rattie boy with quite the case of buck grease.
So it is time ...

One other thing, this curious, active, friendly little guy (available for adoption) has had very, very smelly feces since he moved in.
I expected it to clear up as he adjusted and his diet improved ... it hasn't.

Fed him some yogurt last night and am hoping that the probiotics will help.
Applied revolution eleven days ago when he arrived in case of internal or external parasities.
Any ideas?

The yogurt should definitely help. If not, that would be a good question for the vet when you take him in. (BTW, the snow isn't supposed to start til tomorrow evening).

aahhh ..... it was snowing today and is continuing to snow tonight ...
Almost slid off the road .... saw an accident on the way home ... lots of people off the road, police cars, etc.
This isn't part of the storm??

What a cutie! Buck grease at that age... that's not usually normal. Have you tried giving him some olive oil? As for the poops, I would not give him any veggies until the poop is better.

Awww another girl with goolies. lol We've had our share here too. And vice versa.

Did you try unsalted soda crackers? It helps most of my guys here.

He is one gorgeous manrat. Good luck on his neuter.

ll try unsalted crakers but his stool isn't loose, it just reeks ... very badly.
Even the vet and his staff commented on how bad he smells.
Actually Ashely doesn't smell bad if you sniff him, unless you sniff near his butt.

Dalhas, when I picked him up and for awhile, he he didn't seem to have buck grease and looked like a 3 month old boy.
It is possible that he is older then 3.5 months, but the snake owner thought she was an adult because of her massive size (357 g).
He has been here 11 days, his coat is now discoloured from buck grease and the other rats have been really reacting to him for the last week.
The snake owner said he had bought the girl from Pets Unlimited a week before giving her to me.
From what I know of that horrible store, Ashley would have likely been around 3 months old unless he had been returned by someone.

Vet said to keep an eye on Ashley as his tubes were very large and he may develop complications.
Returned to the vet's after picking Ashley up as his incision was oozing a fair amount of blood. In the waiting room blood started flowing out of his incision when he was picked up.
He was rushed into surgery as it seemed that he had pulled out his stiches and gotten ahold of the stump - but hard to tell with all of the blood.
Turns out there was no problem after all. It is thought that he must have had a blood clot as all stiches were fine.
Glue was applied to Ashley's incision.

So now we are home and I am hoping the remainder of the evening is less eventful.
Ashley is relaxing under his blanket.

Your heart must have been in your throat when you saw the blood.

I'm just so glad it happened in the vet's waiting room, and that it was the vet who had lifted up Ashley for a look when the blood started flowing.
If I have been home, I would have freaked!

Poor little man. Hope he heals up quickly for you.

I had the opposite issue with sexing the other day. Went to get a boy and ended up with a little girl. Some people just don't have a clue..

He must have a problem with the clotting. This can happen with rats on a diet with no vitamin K. If he keeps bleeding, you could ask your vet for a vitamin k shot.

ok, thanks Jorats!
He is on harlan, but still not sure if it is what he wants.

He hasn't showed signs of bleeding since ealy this morning but I will be keeping a close eye on him.

Ashley's odor is fine now ...
He had a post neuter check up, and his stiches were removed.
He has swelling on one side - it may be scar tissue or he may be developing an abscess.
