It's been about a month since his neuter and after a small abscess on his left side (which healed after a couple weeks and some ABs), he has developed one on the right side . . . sigh . . . I used a hot compress and helped it along with a sterile needle this morning. It's right next to his little weenie, so I poked as far away as possible and tried not to push too much. I put the yuckier pics in spoilers for those currently eating dinner . . .

Checked on him a few hours later, it's completely open

The blue staining is from the chlorohexadine solution I used to flush the gaping hole. I called my vet and left her a message about him. (She's a vet I work with at the shelter, so I should hear from her soon). He's active and climbing around, so I am not too worried, yet. I just want to get him on some ABs and get him on the road to recovery.

Getting him the abs is very good. That's pretty big... but looks like you are doing every thing right to get it under control. I have asked my vet why with some vets, their patients seem to develop a lot of neuter abscesses. She figured it was because they remove the fatty tissue on top of where they need to snip. My vet puts it all back. We have done dozens and dozens of neuters and not once did we get an abscess. (knock on wood)

When will I learn NOT to look at titles with abscess photos?

The underneath looks good though. Finley had one pop up 2 months after his neuter, the ugliest thing i have seen. It covered from his sheath down to the end of his testicle. Once it finally scabbed up and popped open, it was gone in less than a week, it was just a little thing, it healed super fast. I was super cleaning their cage since i had abscess problems, soaks in Epsom salt and water (boiled, then cooled). It is totally gone now and has yet to return :) I did it twice a day, till it shrank.
