Anyone have any experience with Apo Sulfatrim?

Petite Grisse has been on baytril & other antibiotics (mostly zithro) since she moved in last Sept.
She has also been on benezapril & atenolol most of that time and lasix for quite awhile.
Recently pred was addd as Petite Grise has started head butting :(
Since Solomon was pts a few weeks ago, Petitte Grisse has not been eating her meds and I have been syringe feeding them into her :( (We all miss Sol terribly)

Several months ago, when the zithro was removed Petite Grisse became much worse.
Thinking of trying Apo Sulfatrim instead of the zithro to see if it will improve her breathing.
My vet and I have discusssed it, but neither of us have had experience using this med with rats.

Petite Grisse has a deformed spine that puts pressure on the organs in her chest.
Xray has not shown an enlarged heart, but the above heart meds have helped her a great deal.
She isn't doing as well any more, now on lasix 3xs a day now and often needs sub-Q fluids :sad3:
Wondering if she may have a respir infection the baytril/zithro combo isn't effective against ....

So ... any experience with Apo Sulfatrim and rats, or suggestions?

Shelagh says it's not supposed to be good for resp. infections but I have tried it when others haven't worked and it's helped. My vet combined it with Baytril once and it really helped the rat. (It's the only drug found to be effective on lab mice with CAR B and my rats have it, so that may have something to do with it.) It's also known as sulfa-trim, trim-sulfa, TMS, Septra, Bactrim... maybe a few others. It's a compounded antibiotic and I think each of the last three is a different ratio of the two meds but the dosage is determined by the concentration of one ab.

Sulfatrim is usually best for skin conditions, abscesses and even UTIs. It's never worked on my rats for respiratory but definitely worth a try if nothing else is working. I would also recommend doing it with Baytril.

Ok .... My vet gave me Apo Sulfatrim pills ... to grind up and make into a solution.

I will try it with baytril, etc as suggested.
I am just going to use it instead of the zithro, all other meds will remain unchanged.
Hopefully Petite Grisse's breathing will improve.

Thank you to both of you for the info.
