I fear I may be getting paranoid, but I was reading a thread talking about the head bumping associated with PT, and started to wonder if that was what my rat is doing. When I pet her, she kinda sticks her head out/up sorta leaning into it and closes her eyes. My other rats just kinda sit there. So if anyone has a video of this head bumping, I would appreciate it.

What you describe, I've had rats do that and they weren't sick. But also, the head bumping might be a symptom of PT but not a definite one. I've had healthy rats do the head bumping.

Have you ever had a rat go underneath you and start bumping you on your butt to move you? That's the head bumping we mean.

Lilith has head bumped all her life, in her case just being opinionated. "Git your hands off me woman!"

The head bumping from PT is very involuntary...you will know the difference when you experience it.

Oh okay, I think I have the gist of it. Thanks! I've had the get your butt out of my path bumps before, lol, it's not like that thank god. I had a feeling I was being paranoid, since it was a semi-new thing and I read that, but it's always better to ask.

Yeah that's a good idea Jorats, it may help people. I hope I don't but if I encounter it I'll do the same.

Heh, only one of mine does it frequently, I try not to feel bad though, she's far more bossy with her cagemates :giggle:

What about the sort of head bump when they seem to be lifting their head to meet your hand? A couple of my boys who *love* being petted from nose to ear will involuntarily raise their head to meet my hand with each stroke. I never thought of it as being PT-associated, it seemed more like the same kind of thing a cat does when they sort of press their head to your hand for each stroke.

Ooh I love that...and obviously so do they

The PT head bump is not as strong as a "get away from me, or get this off of me!", its not voluntary like the lifting of the head into your hand, with the dreamy expression. A PT headbump (or 3) is a quick bump up, and if you slow down your stroke, they will keep doing it...

Hey, just found this thread after doing a search after reading about lilspaz's head bumping with poor Frida.
Meesha has always head bumped but all she's ever had was really bad RI, no sign of PT. It is more a "get your hand off my head" head-shove or a "get this outta my face" bump, so is that ok?
