My rat Oscar has a black spot just under his bum. It's not swollen or anything, it's just a black spot. I touched it and it feels like skin. Could it just be a regular color spot? I haven't noticed it before but then again I haven't been looking. I only noticed it now because I was cleaning the cage and he was climbing it and I thought he had a stuck poop or something until I took a closer look.

I don't think it hurts him because he didn't squeak when I was inspecting it. It's hard to get a good look because he doesn't want to hold still long enough. I'm going to try to get a picture to post up.

It might look a little like a mole, yes. Rats get moles?

Here is a couple pictures... they're blurry because I had to hold him in one hand and take a pic with the other... no one else around my place will be willing to help me take a picture of my rat's bum.

That looks like his skin colour.
I would agree with Jo - but keep an eye on it, maybe make a note of its size (ie. about the size of a dime etc) and see if it seems to be getting bigger, or changing in colour, or if he seems to be bothering with it - but the area of his skin that has black fur will be darker, and it may just be that bald spot on their goolies, if it had fur would've had black fur :)

This, yes? It turned out not to be cancerous.

Yes, i believe it is :)

Sorry, i am so exhausted i can barely open my eyes long enough to look at the screen nevermind search for a post tonight

Thanks you guys. I'll keep an eye or two on the mark, but it's probably only a mole, or just the pigment of his skin. I hadn't seen it before but I hadn't really been looking for a freckle on his boys. :p The only reason I noticed it was because I was down at eye level with the cage while I was spreading around the bedding at the bottom of their cage, and Oscar climbed up to say hello and continued on... I thought it was a poo at first but I saw it again later so I took him out to inspect.

He was not happy with me, especially after the pictures.
