Hi,

I have Meesha on Clavulox for a....I'm not sure what. Respiratory problem. I posted about a month ago with her breathing problems, so used some nasal spray which worked for a while but in the end I had to put her on Baytril. That wasn't doing much so the vet gave me some Clavulox which has worked in the past. She's still not improving too quickly - not eating much, lethargic and flat - but I'm finding it hard to administer. I have tried hiding it in absolutely everything (I don't know why she doesn't like it because it tastes just like a banana milkshake) but she won't touch it, so now I am down to holding her and my partner squirting it in her mouth. Then she proceeds to wipe her mouth along the bedding like it's poison. I feel awful. She runs along wiping her little face on everything to get rid of.....the taste maybe...? She's really mad after and I feel like I am the worst mum EVER. So do you think she knows best and could she be allergic and it's...I don't know, really itchy or something and not helping or do I just persist and keep going regardless of the evil eye she gives me?
Would really appreciate some opinions...feeling bad here :thud:

We have all seen that rub your chin on the ground so you don't have to touch it with your paws...that means they really really hate the taste. :sick2:

If its not working and she hates it, then you should change your meds up, try baytril and doxy or baytril and zithromax instead. Baytril alone often cannot cut it against a URI.

I had a cat on clavamox/clavulox and it gave her so much tummy pains we had to stop it. I wonder if that's what might be going on with your little one.
Have you tried adding Zithromax or the equivalent to the baytril instead of clavulox?

Selene got very severe diarrhea off of Clavamox, you really need to give a pro-biotic with it.

If you want to find out how bad it tastes...lick your finger. I think it has a bitter aftertaste they hate?

Well it's funny because I tasted the Baytril and it was so bitter but the Clavulox tastes delicious like banana and yet, she seems to take the Baytril better than Clav. But I have stopped the Baytril because it's hard enough to get one into her, let alone two doses morning and night. I'll go back to the Baytril and ask my vet about the Zithromax. I mentioned it to him last time and he had never heard about it, told me it was probably a 'people' drug. So I will push for this. She's pretty flat though and I don't know what else to do.
Lilspaz, by pro-biotic, do you mean yoghurt? She's been having that daily as it's one of the few things she will eat right now (as long as it's served a la finger).

Oooh, not sure. No, I don't think it is. Just normal plain yogurt and she normally has it in the morning and at moment I've just been giving her the Clavulox at night.

It may help her to get her meds twice a day, with the yogurt somewhere in between. I have had rats who got GI distress from Clavamox, so a switch to something else would help.
