Back in 2001, my husband Scott asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I asked for a couple of rats. He didn’t like the idea much and so asked me for what else? So for a full year I researched rats. I checked lots of books and personal websites but it wasn’t until my sister told me about Petratscanada.com forum did I truly start to learn about rats. In 2002, I finally got my babies. I started out with 2, a week later I bought 2 more and so on…the rest is history.
Petratscanada forum has since shut down, I couldn’t find another great resource for rats. There are other forums but they all lack compassion and sensitivity in one way or another which is why I started the Rat Shack.
I’ve gained a lot of knowledge through the years. I’ve worked closely with my vet on a few issues like pulmonary adenomas, pituitary adenomas, spaying and neutering as well as becoming very aware of rat behavior. I can spot trouble in an instant. I finally am able to share my experiences and knowledge with other rat lovers.
I’ve dedicated my time to loving rats, as well as helping, sharing and supporting my fellow rat lovers.
